The Killing of Shireen Abu Akleh; plight of Syrian Refugees
June 8, 2022, Season 2 Episode 10
Segment 1: Tony Abu Akleh, brother of slain Palestinian American Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh (Aqleh) ...June 11 will mark one month since Shireen was killed while covering a rally for Palestinians ... and nothing has been resolved yet.
The Israelis immediately denied killing her but scores of witnesses said that the spot where Shireen was standing wearing a vest with the word PRESS emblazoned in large letters was the focus on Israeli military sniper fire. Israeli Snipers don't just shoot indiscriminately. They shoot for the head and to kill.
Ned Price, the State Department spokesman said Israel had the wherewithal and the capabilities to conduct a thorough investigation ... after denouncing the killing of an American and a journalist.
But this week on June 6, Senator Mitt Romney a Republican from Utah and Jon Ossoff a Democrat from Georgia in a bipartisan letter demanded a "full and transparent investigation."
That prompted Secretary of State Anthony Blinken yesterday June 8 to say he wanted an independent investigation also.
Segment 2: Dr. Mufaddal Hamadeh, former president of SAMS, talking about Syrian refugees and the refugee crisis across the globe ... Syrian American Medical Society
Mufaddal Hamadeh, MD
Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), Board Member
Dr. Mufaddal Hamadeh is a practicing physician, board-certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology, by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Hematology & Oncology at the University of Illinois, Chicago, IL, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center Affiliate, University of Illinois, Chicago, IL.
He attended Damascus University Medical School. He is currently a physician with the Alpha Med physicians group, and an associate clinical professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
Since 2014, Dr. Hamadeh has acted as the SAMS Midwest Chapter president. He is also a SAMS foundation board member, a member of SAMS advocacy committee and the SAMS Lebanon committee member.

It's Wednesday May 25, 2022 and I am your host, Ray Hanania ... April is an important month
We're broadcasting live in Detroit, Washington DC, and rebroadcasting Thursday in Detroit at 7 AM and in Chicago at 12 noon on WNWI AM 1080 radio ...
Today we are going to focus on an event that took the lives of 34 American soldiers and injured 173 others ... the Israeli attack with jets and torpedo boats against the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967 ... the veterans did not get any help from the US Government during the vicious attack ... The US Military has continued to minimize the attack as an accident but the survivors who were on the Liberty dispute the findings and believe a full and comprehensive investigation has never been done ... what really happened 55 years ago this June 8?
We invited six survivors who served on the USS Liberty that horrific day ... to join us to help us understand what happened
Don Pageler
Communications Technician, wounded in the Israeli attack while helping other wounded shipmates. Pageler was awarded the Presidential UNIT Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Cnduct Medals and National Defense Medal.
Mickey LeMay
Mickey LeMay a survivor of the USS LIBERTY serving as a 2ND Class electrician in charge of the electrical department on the USS Liberty.
Ron Kukal
A First Class Communications Technician, and section supervisor who was ordered to be in charge of the body recovery of his shipmates. He suffered tremendous trauma during the attack.
Phil Tourney
Tourney received the Bronze Star for heroism for rescuing fellow servicemembers and praises Tourney BUT does not mention the state that directed the attack, Israel ... The Government has done everything to coverup Israel's role and minimize what Israels did.
Larry Bowen
A Naval Officer and later defense contractor now retired, Bowen serves as the president of the USS Liberty Veterans Org. at USSLibertyVeterans.org. He received a Purple Heart for injuries received during the attack, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for sustained superior performance over my 21 years of military service.

The meaning of Lebanon’s elections with ATFL VP Jean AbiNader May 18, 2022 S2 E7

The meaning of Lebanon's elections with ATFL VP Jean AbiNader
May 18, 2022 S2 E7
Today we are going to look at the recent elections in Lebanon ... It has been a tumultuous two years for Lebanon ... the explosion of August 4, 2020 which took 218 lives, injured 7,000 people and left 300,000 homeless. Then there was the economic crisis that followed, and the uncertain and continued political turmoil ... all this has pushed Lebanon into gridlock, a nation that continues to be governed by a sectarian or Confessional division of political office.
The head of state is the president, who is elected by a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly for a term of six years and is eligible to serve consecutive terms. By an unwritten convention, the president must be a Maronite Christian, the premier a Sunni Muslim, and the speaker of the National Assembly a Shi'iMuslim. The president, in consultation with the speaker of the National Assembly and the parliamentary deputies, invites a Sunni Muslim to form a cabinet, and the cabinet members’ portfolios are organized to reflect the sectarian balance. The cabinet, which holds more executive power than the president, requires a vote of confidence from the Assembly in order to remain in power.
With us to help us understand all of this is Jean AbiNader, the Vice President for Policy at the American Task Force on Lebanon. He has decades of experience in public affairs/advocacy, international marketing, education and training, and project management in the Arab world. He regularly contributes analysis in a weekly blog hosted by ATFL on current events in Lebanon and the region.
AbiNader can help us understand the election results this past week and the impact of the elections in the context of the explosion, the economic and political turmoil, and the complex confessional government division.

AbiNader has been working internationally since he finished his post-graduate education in intercultural affairs and eventually had assignments in 40 countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa at the intersection of international marketing, organizational change, cross-cultural communications, and workforce development.
As Vice President of the American Task Force on Lebanon, he oversees the communications team, producing blogs, position papers, press statements, information materials, and policy studies related to US-Lebanon political, economic, and security issues.
He consults on strategic communications and organizational change for both international and US clients; has led a graduate level seminar at Georgetown University; lectures at American University on international development and challenges in intercultural negotiations; and a leads a seminar on effective negotiations at Al-Akhawayn University in Morocco.
